Today, I had coffee and a great conversation with an amazing friend. During our conversation she asked me why our newest tee said “Flawed & Still Worthy” and not just Flawed & Worthy? Now that is such a good question, that’s what I love about her, she is always seeking to understand the “why” behind things and she pushes me to seek more. We chatted about the reasons, but it made me to dig a little deeper and seek out the meaning of each word, not just the phrase itself and here is what I found:
- Flawed –adjective meaning damaged, blemished, or imperfect in some way.
- Still – adverb meaning up to and including the present or the time mentioned, even now or then
- Worthy – adjective meaning deserving effort, attention, respect.
When I looked at the dictionary meaning of these words, “Flawed & Still Worthy” it made it even more clear that this is a message that needs to be heard and to be worn. It doesn’t matter if you are a person of faith or not, or someone seeking some sort of peace in this world from a higher power. At different times in our lives most of us have experienced some sort trauma or burden that we carry with us. Some of us have blemishes that caused deep scars (things we aren’t proud of and wish we could erase). One we can all relate to is that no one is perfect.
Hurts, disappointments, traumas, mental and physical illnesses, abandonment, pain and loss can happen any time in life…in the past, present and the future…but we are still deserving of love, respect and effort and we can’t forget that. We can’t forget that we matter, we are important and WE ARE WORTHY.
Some of us just don’t believe we are worthy because of how we view ourselves. We are looking in the wrong place, at the wrong things. We are listening to lies in our heads and comparing ourselves to societies view of what is deemed as “worthy”. We are labeling ourselves by the hurts, disappointments, illnesses or traumas. All of these things are real. They happened, they’re part of your story and here you are; you still matter and you are worthy. Still.
No matter where you in your story, are you are moving forward into more of the goodness of who you were meant to be.
So, Sarah and I wanted it to say Still Worthy; because no matter where you are in this life YOU MATTER and being flawed is ok! Always remember you are STILL WORTHY. Worthy to love and be loved, worthy to live your life on your terms, worthy to fail, worthy to learn, worthy to teach, worthy to lead, worthy to follow, worthy to overcome, worthy to shine and worthy to live this life fully and completely as who you were made to be.
Psalms 139 14-18 TPT
'I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord! You even formed every bone in my body when you created me in the secret place, carefully, skillfully shaping me from nothing to something. You saw who you created me to be before I became me! Before I’d ever seen the light of day, the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your book. Every single moment you are thinking of me! How precious and wonderful to consider that you cherish me constantly in your every thought! O God, your desires toward me are more than the grains of sand on every shore! When I awake each morning, you’re still with me. Every single moment you are thinking of me! How precious and wonderful to consider that you cherish me constantly in your every thought!
